Ultramarine Blue 29 & Ultramarine Violet 15 — Technical Shade Guide

Musclerox® pigments (Kaleido Chemie Pvt. Ltd.) offer a graded range of Pigment Blue 29 (Ultramarine Blue) and Pigment Violet 15 (Ultramarine Violet), spanning one economy grade and five performance grades.

The Range

Economy Grade

  • CI-2900 — Ultramarine Blue baseline grade

Performance Grades (Ultramarine Blue)

  • MX-2908
  • MX-2919
  • MX-2925
  • MX-2952
  • MX-2962

Ultramarine Violet

  • MX-1508

Reading the Color Space Charts

Mass Tone 1% (a*/b*) — shows each pigment at full masstone strength. MX-2952 and MX-2908 sit at the redder, lighter end (a* ~17–19, b* ~-44 to -45), while MX-2962 and MX-2905 trend bluer and deeper (b* down to -49/-50). CI-2900 sits in the middle of the pack at a* ~17, b* ~-47.

Tint Tone 1:5 (a*/b*) — the same pigments let down 1:5 with white, which is often more decisive for matching. Here CI-2900 reads bluest (a* ~2.2, b* ~-29), while MX-2962 shifts noticeably redder and deeper in tint (a* ~3.6, b* ~-33) — useful if a formulation needs to hold its blue character after dilution rather than drifting.

Note: the chart data also includes MX-2905, MX-2956, and MX-2956 (LS) — grades not listed on the current shade card — worth confirming before publishing if these are meant to be part of the same line.

Choosing a Grade

  • Need the truest neutral blue after tinting → CI-2900 or MX-2908
  • Need maximum tinting strength / deeper masstone → MX-2962, MX-2905
  • Need a violet-leaning ultramarine → MX-1508
